From 1 February 2016, all private landlords in England will have to make right to rent checks. This means checking that tenants have the right to be in the UK. 

Landlords will have to conduct necessary document checks to establish whether a person has a right to rent in accordance with the Immigration Act 2014. Checking ID is something we've been doing as a letting agency ever since I started 10 years ago so it's nothing new really. Makes sense to find out who your letting a property to! The difference is the focus on a tenant's right to be in the UK.
